Gorilla shot dead in the Cincinnati zoo to save a baby boy

An incident in Cincinnati once again raises the question, how many animals will be killed due to the carelessness of the visitors? Killing animals in order to save the visitors is not a new incident. Previously many animals were also killed in order to save the visitors in the several zoos of the world. Among that two lions were killed in Chile to avoid such an incident when a drunken man trespasses in to the den of the lions to attempt suicide. This accident is repeated in the Cincinnati to remind the world about the awareness of the general visitors in the zoo.

The Fatal Incident:

The event occurred in Saturday afternoon when a boy of four years falls about 10feet depth of the moat of a Gorilla in the city of Cincinnati. It is reported that the 17 years old male Gorilla from western lowland named Herambe started to drag the boy as soon as the boy falls in to the moat. Keeping the boy down, he kept on staring up without returning the boy. The primary care takers call upon the authority personnel of the zoo. Then the tranquilizing team arrived on the spot. But the situation didn’t assure the team that the boy can be saved even after tranquilizing the Gorilla. Then the rescue team had to take the fatal decision to kill the Gorilla & save the child. Now the child is admitted to the hospital. Though any further information is unavailable but hopefully he will be recovered very soon.

Consequences:

The western lowland Gorilla which is actually marked as one of the endangered species is preserved in almost 50 zoos in all over the world. The incident already has made the animal lovers alert about the safety of the animals in the zoos. Therefore, the authority had to take the fatal decision which has raised a lot of controversies in all around the world.

The head person of the zoo has claimed that they primarily were unwilling to kill the Gorilla as he has equal right to live like any other living being. But the seriousness of the incident made them to take the fatal decision to save the child.

Counter Incident:

The similar incident happened in 1986 on the island of Jersey where a five year old boy also fell down in to the enclosure of a Gorilla. But an unexpected incident happened on that day that a Gorilla named Jumbo stood guarding over him to protect the child from the other Gorillas. This ‘humanity’ of an animal became the talk of the town at that time. But the present incident just opposes the kindness of Jumbo.
