Yet another miserable incident took
place in Brazil where a teenage girl was raped repeatedly by 30 men. The whole
incident comes into the attention of the Brazilian officials when the culprits
uploaded a small clip of the girl being raped on the social media platform. The
girl claimed that she went to her boyfriend's house last Saturday but she
reluctantly woke up in some different house surrounded by men.
In her statement by to the Brazilian
police, the sixteen year old girl stated that she woke up without her clothes
on as well as wounded on Sunday morning and found her way back home. It was few
days later when she found out that a video of her getting molested has become
viral on social media. Although lots of hateful comments have been passed
against the victim but at the same time a lot of people are supporting the
girl. She also has thanked her supporters in Facebook and said, "I really
thought I was going to be badly judged".
The Brazilian police have already
started an investigation on the case and the social media account on which the
video was shared has been blocked permanently. An all total of 30 arrest warrants
have been issued against the molesters along with one for her boyfriend. Many
of the reporting agencies have protest against the incident and have asked for
fair trial instead of blaming the girl for her appearance.
As per the sources, so far the police
have managed to identify four people based on the video released on the social
media. One of them is the girl's boyfriend, a person appearing on the video and
two others based on voices heard in the video.
Brazil has experienced mass rape
incidents over past few years but hardly any of them are officially reported. A
senior official of Brazilian police stated that out of all the rape incidents
which occurs in Brazil, only 35 percent of them gets reported. Rest of them
don't want to make such thing public as they think this would only make their
reputation to degrade or they have to share public criticism.
According to the Brazilian rape
activists, very time such miserable incident occurs in the country, the victim
is the one who is held responsible for. A lot of online campaigns have been
starred against the such incident and they are trying to educate the people
that the victim should not be abused after what she has gone through rather the
culprits should be punished.
