Rohit Sharma’s record breaking score of
171 in a match against Australia fails to satisfy the batsman of Indian cricket
team. Even though he successfully broke Vivian Richards’ record of the highest
individual scorer against the aussies in their own land, Rohit Sharma was
disappointed because Team India lost the opening of the ODI of the total of
five match series by only five wickets. The said match was on the soil of
Australia, in perth. The pitch in Perth was flat WACA but Rohit managed to
score a roaring 171 against the team in their own country. Even though Rohit’s
score gave Team india a total run of 309, his score was kicked out of the 22
gauge by skipper Steve Smith and George Bailey. This was disappointing to Rohit
Sharma, because Rohit, the ablaze batsman on
his roaring form thought of scoring more to keep his team in a safe
position. After making a run of 171, it was very disappointing to the batsman naturally because no batsman ended up
losing the match after scoring an 171. Nevertheless, it was personal
achievement for Rohit Sharma, and he himself conceded that it was a “great
knock” for the opponent’s team.
As Sharma said to bcci.tv, that score
was important for the team to give them a healthy start and a momentum to
follow to win a match. Unfortunately, tables were turned and India lost the
match. India would have easily won if they could but carry on the momentum
Rohit set them on. Team India naturally did so but failed to win the match for
marvellous counter attack of the Australian Team. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli
duo scored a 207 in the match, with Virat Kohli’s score of 91. Despite their
high scores, the australian counter attack demolished the last chance of
winning for team India as the openers Smith and Bailey made a score of 242 in
the very start of batting.
Rohit was normally very disappointed. In
his own words, It was rewarding to create a big score in his partnership with
Kohli. But at the end of the day, what matters the most is winning the game. It
is very disappointing that despite their good scores they failed to win the
match. But Rohit ends in optimistic tone saying that there are still four more
matches left of the series, and he will keep his fingers crossed and hope for
the best. He is sure to come back strong and win the series.
The expectations from Rohit have always
been high because he is the only person from whom “daddy hundreds” are
expected. He is the only batsman with two double centuries in ODI. Moreover, he
holds the record of individual highest score in this format. Rohit says more on
his scoring hundreds that one has to understand the pulse of a match.
Consistency is important to be a good batsman. Rohit says he always aimed for
bigger scores, hundreds. He is glad to score hundreds for his team and it
indeed is a milestone but not winning the match despite scoring a century was a
great disappointment for the 28 year old batsman.
